LISA GROSHANS started dancing at the age of
11 and she has studied many forms of dance. In addition to her position as a full time elementary school teacher, she has been teaching and choreographing
for several dance studios on Long Island. She choreographed various skits and
productions when she attended Centereach High School and continues to choreograph their annual theater productions. She was voted “Best Dancer” her senior year there (Naturally!). Lisa has danced with, and worked for the Brookhaven Theatre
Dance Guild, and participated in their annual Summer productions of “Spectrum”.
She has performed with The Long Island Dance Company “Synergism” ,
and she was also a judge
for the Royal Academy of Dance, ballet exams. She has performed
and choreographed dances for a local D.J. Company and Lisa has also taught after
school programs and gym classes. She was the Artistic Director of the
Greater Port Jefferson Arts Council’s Dance Celebration. While attending Suffolk Community College, she was a featured
performer in their dance shows. Lisa was interviewed in Dance Teacher Now magazine for their column “Teachers
are Talking”. A graduate of Stony Brook University (a B.A. in social
sciences), Lisa also holds a Masters degree in special education from Dowling College.
This spring the Groshan’s household welcomed a new bundle of joy, as our
Miss Lisa brought a beautiful new baby girl into the world. She’s a fabulous dancer, a wonderful teacher, a great
new mom, and a wonderful role model for our students.
In addition to juggling a full time teaching position, Lisa still manages to maintain a killer schedule
teaching dance. A truly dedicated professional she remains, my hero, an inspiration
to us all, and it is a privilege to be associated with her.
